My name is Timothy Belloff and I currently teach 8th grade American History at Penn Wood Middle School in Darby, PA. The school I teach at is in a very urban and economically challenged area. I have tried not to let that get in my way of utilizing technology in my classroom. My school has 2 projectors for teacher use. To give you an idea of how much teachers in my school utilize technology, I had hijacked one of the projectors at the beginning of the year to use in my classroom and no one has really come looking for it. I use it almost every day to help my students out. I do not have a Smartboard or any other real fancy equipment, but I did manage to make my own Smartboard using a Wii remote and a little knowledge of electronics. I really enjoy playing around with technology and adding different features to my student’s learning, so they find it more interesting.
I would love to be able to use all sorts of technology for this culminating project and be able to utilize it for my classroom (which I will try to do) but it is a struggle to be able to use computers with my classes. There are 900 students in our building and no more that 65 to 70 computers for students to use throughout the day. This will be the biggest challenge that I think I will face in the creation of my project.
I am a very busy individual. I coach 3 sports (football, wrestling and baseball), I am the Athletic Supervisor for the Middle School, I am the Technology Liaison for the school with the district (basically I do the pre helpdesk stuff so the IT guys don’t have to keep coming to our building because a network cable is unplugged), I work part time at Gamestop, I am almost done my masters degree and I am really glad that I am getting a break for the summer.
